Let's be totally honest here: I do NOT cook.
Wait... what?
My friends and family have made fun of me for years for my aptitude to burn things like water... or mashed potatoes... and how often my smoke alarm goes off. For the better part of the last decade, I have routinely made gluten-free chicken nuggets and tater tots (or some other frozen form of potato) for my dinners, with the occasional drive-thru meal or other processed crap. Yet here I am, an Independent Executive Cooking Ambassador & Leader!
In April 2021, I was sitting at home (as many of us were doing during the pandemic) when I was invited to an online "cooking class" that one of my best friends was hosting. I had heard of this company a few times recently but honestly blew it off because it was cooking. I only watched because I was bored. And in just a few minutes, my jaw was on the floor and my life had changed forever! You'd think this is me being dramatic or sarcastic - but I promise you, it's TRUE!
I watched this woman in her kitchen, cooking an entire dinner - complete with fresh meat and vegetables - in under 20 minutes. AND she made gluten-free brownies in about 4 minutes... in the MICROWAVE!?! Wait, you're telling me EVERYTHING is gluten free?? Get out! Hold on just one gosh darn minute! Why has no one ever told me about this before? There has got to be a catch...
You see, since July 3 2009, I have been 100% gluten free after struggling with health issues for the majority of my life (Celiac genetics run strong through my family tree) and gluten-free food options are typically very expensive and not tasty enough to justify the calories. I live in the Milwaukee WI area where we are quite fortunate to have dedicated bakeries, restaurants, and sections at most grocery stores. I even started the Gluten Free Milwaukee group on Facebook when I was feeling lonely back in my early days of trying to go gluten free. It acts as a resource and community to share recipes, restaurant and product reviews, and overall support - especially for someone new to the gluten-free lifestyle. I am constantly looking for great gluten free options and trying to stay on the pulse of the newest, latest, and greatest.
The pricing was extremely reasonable and I wouldn't have to read labels, plus I really should try to eat healthier... and she did make it look so easy - it actually takes less time than pre-heating and baking my chicken nuggets in the toaster oven! I could make videos in my kitchen... I hadn't even tried the food yet and I signed up! My best friend - the class host - also signed up so we were off and running! (We had been in another direct sales company together before but they had gone out of business and we were both looking for something new.)
Now folks, I have been in different direct sales companies since 2000. Makeup and skin care. Jewelry. Handbags. Shoes. Essential oils. Chocolate. Always fun girly stuff - which means you usually miss out on 50% of the population based strictly on what products you offer. This is totally different - EVERYONE eats food! And the fact that pretty much every "dinner dilemma" can be addressed with our time-saving cookware and amazing spice blends... I had a lot of ideas in mind for my new business adventure!
As soon as my items began to arrive at my doorstep, I started going "live" on my Facebook wall as I was making dinner. That definitely garnered attention from all my friends and family, who again, thought this was a late April Fools prank. The more I showed them that the meals were easy enough that even I could handle them with very little prep and cooking time... the more people began to take notice! And the food was so delicious, I had some doubts that it could possibly be gluten free!!? You have to consider that this company has been based in Canada for 25 years and is a household name north of our border. Canada's food guidelines are also much stricter to ensure higher quality and safety of ingredients than those of the US.
